Today is the last phase of the BARTsmart server upgrade. While no disruption of service is expected, as with all server upgrades anything is possible. Let us know if you run in to any problems. Early testing indicates that the new servers are about four times faster than the old and all preparation is complete. We're throwing the proverbial switch! I'll post back when the upgrade is complete. Note: If you are reading this message then you have already shifted to the new servers. Congratulations, upgrade complete! Permalink // Comments (0)

BART's website is not providing schedules for certain routes. The schedules are missing from BART's website and are not displayed by our widget. Our BART Widget relies on BART's website for real-time schedule information and this prevents it from working in all situations. Not all routes are effected. Embarcadero station routes seem to be the most effected, like Embarcadero to Downtown Berkeley. BART has not acknowledged the problem or provided a time estimate for a fix. Mac OS X Leopard Widget Compatibility Mac OS X Leopard just launched. Our BARTsmart Bart Widget is compatible with Leopard's Dashboard. BARTsmart iPhone A brief update... BARTsmart for iPhone is in testing now. BART schedules in your hand on the go or at home. Permalink // Comments (0)
There was an unexpected interruption of BART Widget service this evening, starting around 11 PM. The widget's popularity has exceeded expectations and the website reached its bandwidth cap. I've contacted my hosting providing and we're working on the issue. Update - January 27th 11:00 AM The site and BART Widget are back online. My hosting providing, A2 Hosting went above and beyond to get me back online and prevent the issue in the future. Thanks A2! Permalink // Comments (1)

Today (Monday, July 17th) is another Spare the Air day and BART is offering free rides all day, along with other transit agencies. Public transportation is a great way to help the environment, especially on days like today with hot, smoggy weather. Last week $5.3 million was approved for three additional Spare The Air days. This brings a total of six Spare The Air days for 2006. On each of the past three Spare The Air days, BART ridership spiked an additional 10%. For more information, see the Bay Area Air Quality Management site, 511.org transit info, sparetheair.org and BART's news. Update - July 20th Thursday has also been declared a Spare the Air day. This is the fifth day of six. Monday's Spare the Air day drew about 26,000 more passengers, an 8% increase. Update - July 21st Friday has been declared a Spare The Air day as well. Good for our pocketbooks and hopefully we can do our part to help the environment. Permalink // Comments (0) News Archives // Older Stories |
