News Archives // Archive Index // Latest NewsBART To Replace Trains // December 27th, 2005BART is planning to replace its aging fleet of 669 train cars with an initial cost estimate of $2 billion. The current trains debuted in the 1970s and were state-of-the-art at the time, but now they are worn and do not include many of the high-tech features found in other, modern transit systems, including TV screens with real-time system schedules. In 2006, BART will release a study detailing what cars will need to be replaced and cost estimates for the project. New cars, costing about $3 million each, will be purchased in 2012 after other projects are paid off. Permalink // Comments (0) Reader CommentsBe the first to leave a comment!Post a Comment |
